I saw a nature show on PBS once about these little ponds with frogs and birds. The frogs were incredibly poisonous. Like you're probably better off not even thinking about those frogs. Like brush up against it and keel over dead kind of thing. Or basically just way more poisonous than any frog has any business being.

The story was that it evolved because those birds would eat the frogs, and poisonous frogs had a better chance of not being eaten. Of course, the birds that were resistant to poison didn't mind so much, and so after thousands or maybe millions of years you wound up with super-poisonous frogs and super-immune birds. It's basically an evolutionary arms race.

I think the same kind of thing will happen on the internet. The race between spammers and spam fighting tools will escalate until the AI on either side is so advanced that the spam fighting tools will eventually destroy every billboard, brand name, and radio jingle on earth. Corporations will collapse, telemarketers will be enslaved and/or burned at the stake, and web pages will load fifteen percent faster.
