newfound focus [07/05/2007 04:39:49]

I've had a bit of blogfright since April, when I attracted attention with the scarlet lambda announcement. Scarlet's still very important to me, but I don't have much to report.

I've been unproductive. The end of June came and went, and I barely scratched the surface of the company goals I'd hoped to accomplish. I got pretty depressed about that as the deadline drew closer, but after reading The Four Hour Workweek, I reconsidered some of my main habits, and things have really turned around.

For example, I've cleared out my support mail backlog, and kept it clear for almost a week, and while I feel bad about the long list of company goals I failed to deliver,
I realize those projects would have taken a tremendous amount of work while only helping a small fraction of my customers with a small fraction of their problems once
in a while.

I'm considering just opening the source code behind the whole dang company, and letting people build what they want - or vote on features for me to sponsor with my massive three-figure development budget.

Whether cornerhost goes open source or not, I'm determined to maintain the freedom to work on whatever's most interesting to me. That was the whole point of starting my own company, and it's something I lost sight of over the years. I expect to do a lot of tinkering in the near future, much of which will involve software, much of which will involve scarlet lambda.

Stay tuned.
